Hi-Cap Nomination Period April 3-16

Mead School District currently uses the CogAT to help with this process.  Being designated as a highly capable learner gives parents and the school more information about the student’s learning needs.

The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), along with prior District and/or State assessments, are among the multiple measures used as part of the evaluation process to determine if a student qualifies to be designated as highly capable. The CogAT measures a student’s general abstract reasoning and their verbal, quantitative, and non-verbal abilities.

According to its publisher, the CogAT may not be administered to a student who has taken it within the last six months. Therefore, our second and third grade students who participated in CogAT screening and testing earlier this school year are not eligible for nomination at this time.  However, they may be nominated for evaluation next year.

Nominations will be received until Friday, April 16, 2021.  Nomination forms are available below or you may contact your child’s school for further assistance.  Please return hard copy forms directly to your child’s school. Translated versions are available below.

If you have any further questions, please contact the Mead Learning and Teaching Department at (509) 465-6033.
